Too cute to club

Too cute to club

Despite the letters, despite the ignorance, despite the combined efforts of many, Canada still started its slaughter on baby seals yesterday, March 23, 2009.  I was so saddened in my heart to read about this unbelievable act.

Hundreds of thousands of adorable, innocent baby seals clubbed to death just to have their fur stripped and used with twisted human interest in mind.  And it really boggles me as to WHY it still happens…

I wrote my own letter of concern, as suggested by the Humane Society of the United States, like many others did.  Canada should not have the Olympics there.  But you know what really blows my mind?  The fact that if these were human babies, being clubbed to death with the intention of profiting from the skin, the entire world would be outraged.  Someone, probably several would be charged with life in prison.  Here we see a prime example of Speciesism in it’s prime and over 330,000 baby seals will lose their lives.  Where is the fairness in that?  …And they call this an “industry”…. If it were your own kin involved, killing them is the last thing you’d want to do.  Especially violently with a club.

Here’s some links to check out, the first one is pleasant.  The second one, not so much– scroll towards the bottom of the page to see the video…

I could never THINK about clubbing anyone to death, let alone actually go and do it. Who do these people think they are? I just hope that one day their hearts will be filled with compassion and maybe do things to help animals, not hurt them. It’s sad that the world they live in lets the clubbers be so desensitized to the truth of what they are doing to the world and creatures around them…
