Healthy Hair grows from the inside, out!

Healthy Hair grows from the inside, out!

Don’t look to the hair care aisle to treat your tresses…what you need is right there in pantry.  And if it’s not, here’s what you can stock up on to let those locks shine!

A balanced vegan diet supplies all the nutrients necessary, while keeping the offenders away.  Here’s what I consider to be the top 6 picks for healthy hair:

  1. Hemp protein. Either in powder form or the hemp seed nuts themselves, this easy-to-use plant protein provides hair with all the vital amino acids for growth, repair, strength and shine.
  2. Water. If you don’t stay hydrated, keeping soft, silky hair is nearly impossible!  Take your weight, and divide it in half.  This is how many ounces of water you need to sip on throughout the day.  After all, we are over 70% water!
  3. Sea Vegetables. Try kelp, dulse, nori and wakame.  Rich in trace minerals and stocked in helpful Omega Oils, a vegan can’t miss out on this jackpot of nutrition!
  4. Whole Grains. Not only are they a good source of fiber, but whole grains contain minerals like folic acid, iron and niacin to help hair grow strong and healthy.
  5. Nuts & Legumes. Kidney, garbanzo, black or adzuki…almost all beans are a great source zinc and protein, as well as biotin and other nutrients.  Nut butters are easy to use and tasty, while raw walnuts are super rich in omega-3 fats.  Brazil nuts are prized for selenium to support health of the scalp.
  6. Leafy greens. Looking for serious amounts of nutrition?  These are your one stop shop!  Vitamins and minerals found in foods such as kale, broccoli, and bok choy are not only a perfect way to get calcium, but to also make sure that your hair has less breakage and more shine.

So next time you visit the grocery store, don’t wander around, wondering what to get…grab some of these goodies and keep that hair healthy!
